University job for princess

PRINCESS Anne has been announced as the new chancellor of Edinburgh University.

She succeeds Prince Philip, who stepped down from the role in 2010 having held it since 1953.

Princess Anne is the university's eighth chancellor in the 150-year history of the position.

She officially took up the position on March 31.

The university's principal, Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea, said: "I am delighted that the Princess Royal is to become our new chancellor and I welcome her to this important role at the heart of university life.
