AT least five people were killed and nearly 100 wounded today when a large explosion ripped through a Pakistani village in a tribal area bordering Afghanistan.

The blast was caused by a suicide bomber on a motorcycle who drove up and detonated his bomb near the Yakaghund village office of a top administrator in the Mohmand area.

The explosion destroyed shops, government offices and a small prison. Footage from the area showed dozens of men pouring through piles of yellow brick and mud rubble in search of survivors.
