Police apology to couple

THE chief of police in New York has personally apologised to an elderly couple in Brooklyn who have suffered dozens of mistaken police visits.

Octogenarians Walter and Rose Martin have been targeted by the police 50 times in the past eight years because of a computer glitch.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly visited the couple on Friday with a cheesecake to "apologise and explain" for the mix-up, which dates back to 2002.
