Worms turn up at school

Pupils at Broughton Primary School have won an unusual prize for their classroom - a wormery.

The youngsters were given the wormery by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency after pupil Strathy Mackay submitted the winning entry in a competition at this year's Royal Highland Show.

Claudia Erber, Sepa soil ecologist, visited the school on Thursday to help children set up the wormery. She also talked to them about the environmental importance of worms in creating compost and digging burrows which aerate soil.
