Kevin Bridges loses cool over photo-hunting ‘roots’ heckler

KEVIN Bridges apologised to audience members after losing his cool with a heckler who accused him of forgetting his roots.

The comic had a heated exchange with the man who had kept pestering him for a photograph during a sell-out show at the Hydro in Glasgow.

Bridges, 29, agreed to have a picture taken with the audience member but when the man asked to get on stage he was sent back to his seat.

The man then told Bridges to “remember his roots” which prompted an angry response from the Clydebank stand-up.

He said: “Remember my roots? F*** off.

“Do you think this is my roots? Pictures and people asking for selfies. That’s all I hear every day, ‘Kev, can I get a picture, give us a picture’.” Kev.’

People are not here to see you. The deal is you buy a ticket for the show, you don’t buy me. What do you know about my roots?”

He later apologised to the 11,000-strong crowd and said his four-month tour of the UK was beginning to take its toll.

“It’s been a long tour. I need a holiday.”

Bridges is this week playing the last gigs of his 16-night sell-out run of his A Whole Different Story show at the Hydro.

He will then play dates in Belfast, Dublin, Plymouth, Sheffield and Nottingham before completing his tour in Coventry next month.

Earlier this month, audience members complained that Bridges’ shows at the Edinburgh Playhouse were marred by hecklers.

The Playhouse said its own security staff were also “monitoring and managing audience behaviour” to prevent interruptions to the £30-a-ticket show.
