9am Briefing: Hibs swoop for striker Alan Gow

HIBS last night swooped to sign to Plymouth striker Alan Gow on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old is reunited with John Hughes, who signed him for Falkirk in 2005 before he moved to Rangers two years later.

Hibs only announced his capture with barely two hours of the transfer window remaining.

Gow started his career at Clydebank in 2000, before joining Airdrie in 2002, where he remained for three years.

He then shot to prominence after joining up with Hughes at Falkirk, becoming one of the Bairns' most influential players, making 82 appearances and scoring 18 goals.

The 27-year-old joined Rangers on a free transfer in 2007 but struggled to break through at Ibrox, subsequently spending time on loan at both Blackpool and Norwich.

Rangers sold the midfielder to Plymouth in August, and he has made ten appearances for the Pilgrims this season.

Hearts sign Stevenson

HEARTS boss Jim Jefferies has signed Ayr United attacking midfielder Ryan Stevenson.

The 25-year-old, who began his career as a trainee at Chelsea, moved to Tynecastle for an undisclosed fee.

As part of the deal, Australian left-back Rocky Visconte went in the opposite direction on loan until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland striker arrived at Parkhead to a hero's welcome on the stroke of midnight before addressing the throng waiting to greet him.

Keane's signing, Celtic boss Tony Mowbray's fourth of transfer deadline day, dwarfed those of Diomansy Kamara, Edson Braafheid and Paul Slane.

The afternoon also witnessed the ninth departure from the club since the turn of the year, with Scott McDonald joining Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.

Keane signed for Spurs in 2002, making almost 200 appearances and scoring 80 goals, before joining Liverpool for around 20 million in July 2008.

However, he went on to make only 15 appearances for the Anfield side and rejoined Spurs in February 2009 for 12million, taking his cumulative transfer fees to more than 70 million. His previous clubs include Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan and Leeds.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan also swooped for Aberdeen striker Lee Miller. Dons boss Mark McGhee has brought in Plymouth duo Steven McLean and Jim Paterson on loan, while Kilmarnock completed loan deals for former Hearts midfielder Scott Severin and Rob Kiernan from Watford, plus Aberdeen striker Chris Maguire.
