All Blacks and Wallabies name expanded squads for Tri-Nations

Otago Highlanders lock Jarrad Hoeata was the only uncapped player named in the All Blacks Tri-Nations squad yesterday, with four other players also included as injury cover in an expanded 34-man pool.

All Blacks wingers Sitiveni Sivivatu and Cory Jane will cover for Hosea Gear, Isaia Toeava and Israel Dagg. Utility back Ben Smith and prop Wyatt Crockett were also included as cover, with Crockett in for Tony Woodcock. Coach Graham Henry said he expected Woodcock, Toeava, Dagg and Gear to play at some stage, with the All Blacks playing Fiji on 22 July before meeting the Springboks in Wellington on 30 July.

Queensland Reds loose forward Radike Samo, New South Wales Waratahs lock Dan Vickerman and Melbourne Rebels full-back Mark Gerrard have been recalled to Australia's squad for the Tri-Nations.

All three had spent time overseas, with Samo, who last played for the Wallabies in 2004, coming out of semi-retirement last year to play for the Reds when they suffered an injury crisis.

Wallabies coach Robbie Deans also named seven uncapped players - flanker Beau Robinson, hooker James Hanson, lock Sitaleki Timani, wingers Rod Davies and Luke Morahan, scrum-half Nick Phipps and loose forward Dave Dennis - in the expanded 40-man squad for the southern hemisphere competition.
