Boroughmuir 27 - 11 Stirling: On-song Warnock aids Meggetland men

Boroughmuir took a step closer to qualifying for the knockout phase of the Premier Cup with a hard-fought but deserved win over Stirling County.

Stirling were rewarded for a lively start when a well-executed lineout drive allowed skipper Alex Moffat to claim the opening try of the afternoon in the fourth minute.

The swirling wind led to two uncharacteristic misses with straightforward penalty attempts before Ally Warnock found the target with his third effort to open Boroughmuir's account after 21 minutes. And the hosts seized the lead when a perfectly weighted chip by Steve Wilson was flipped into the path of onrushing prop Johnny Latta who thundered over from half way.

Warnock missed the conversion but slotted the kick after Malcolm Clapperton had brought the first-half proceedings to a close by rounding off a flowing move with his side's second try.

Stirling, who could rightly claim that the 15-5 interval deficit was scant reward for their contribution, restarted well and clawed back six points with two Brian Archibald penalties.

However, the fightback was halted when Jamie Doubleday crashed over and Warnock converted, then Tom Bury sealed the win for Boroughmuir when he sprinted in at the corner.
