The end of James Forrest’s injury nightmare is in sight, Neil Lennon has revealed.

The Celtic winger returned to training with the first-team at Lennoxtown this week after five months out with an ankle injury.

The 29-year-old hasn’t featured since limping out of a Europa League win over Riga on September 24 that came within an eight-game winning run for Celtic.

But without the Scotland international Lennon’s side soon lurched into a 12-game spell which only brought two wins without the winger.

But after successful surgery on the injured ankle, Forrest is back to boost the squad ahead of the midweek match with St Mirren – but won’t feature after so long on the sidelines.

Lennon said: "Jamesy Forrest is back in training but obviously tomorrow night is too soon for him. So that's a welcome boost to the squad.

"Shane Duffy had a bit of a bug in the last couple of days but trained today. Ryan Christie is fit and back as well."
