Celtic 0 - 1 Atletico Madrid: How they rated

Some bright performances despite a night to forget for the Parkhead faithful

Fraser Forster

Had a couple of decent saves but his match will be remembered for the goal conceded, when he appeared to be slow to react to Turan’s long-range shot even though it looked like Kayal was going to block the strike until he ducked. 6/10

Adam Matthews

Energetic going forward but was also caught out defensively at times by Atletico’s swift counter attacks. 6/10

Daniel Majstorovic

The big defender had a couple of his customary scary moments but helped Celtic establish aerial dominance. 7/10

Glenn Loovens

The Swede won more than his fair share in the air, and was generally solid throughout the match. 7/10

Joe Ledley

Looked comfortable in his less favoured left back role before his evening was cut short by injury. 7/10

James Forrest

Didn’t see as much of the ball as manager Neil Lennon would have hoped. Offered a couple of flashes of hope, but not enough to make the required difference on the night. 7/10

Victor Wanyama

Midfielder was poor in possession at times but gave a good physical presence until he had to be replaced at half time after suffering what appeared to be a dead leg. 6/10

Biram Kayal

The Israeli offered a typically tenacious performance, and was one of Celtic’s better players on the night. 8/10

Ki Sung-Yong

Definitely an off-night for the South Korean midfielder. Uncharacteristically wasteful when in possession. 5/10

Anthony Stokes

This was a difficult shift for the Irish striker, who has been on form in front of goal lately. The lone striker role offered very limited opportunities in the first half, and although he was given support in the second half with the introduction of strike partner Gary Hooper, he didn’t really get a clear sight of goal at any stage. 7/10

Giorgios Samaras

The big Greek striker started very brightly, and showed excellent endeavour on several occasions, but faded as the game went on. 7/10
