Ex-Blackburn boss Steve Kean takes Brunei job

FORMER Blackburn manager Steve Kean is to return to football as manager of Brunei DPMM, who play in Singapore’s top flight.

The 46-year-old Scot resigned from his position at Ewood Park in September 2012 following a tumultuous spell at the helm lasting almost two years, during which Rovers fans constantly called for him to be sacked.

Kean had been linked with the vacant managerial seat at Bury, but will now manage in Asia.

Club manager Waslimin Momin told the official Brunei DPMM website: “He will come in November. We want to change our style of play.”

Last month Kean blamed his lack of popularity with the Blackburn faithful on their disdain for the club’s owners, the Venky’s group.

“I was appointed by the owners and I don’t think the relationship between the fans and owners has got any better.

“Because of that I was getting a hard time,” Kean told Sky’s Goals on Sunday programme.

“There were other sections of the (Blackburn) fans and fans of other clubs who were struggling to get their head around it (the hatred).”
