Opposition form

Faroe Islands gave Austria a bit of a fright on their last outing on Sunday night. While Scotland were drawing 1-1- with Israel in Tel Aviv, the Faroes took the lead against the Austrians before losing 3-1. That was their first defeat in four games and on the back of three consecutive 1-1 draws with fellow Group F side Moldova and Latvia and Malta in the Nations League.

They last won in October with a 2-0 success at home to Andorra.

Who to watch

Klaemint Olsen is the Faroes’ forward with four goals in the latest Nations League campaign.

Previous meetings

There have been a few, but perhaps most infamous was a 2-2 draw in Toftir under Berti Vogts when two late goals from Paul Lambert and Barry Gerguson pulled Scotland level and to a point in the Euro 2004 qualification games.

There was also a 1-1 away draw for Craig Brown in summer 1999 but overall Scotland have a good record against the northern island cluster, with seven wins from nine.

The last match was a 3-0 win in 2010 while the biggest win was for Walter Smith in 2006 with goals from Daren Fletcher, James McFadden, Kenny Miller and Garry O’Connor adding to a Kris Boyd brace in a 6-0 win at Celtic Park.
