Ex-Aberdeen winger Ryan Fraser moves to Ipswich

Scotland under-21 player Ryan Fraser is targeting a second successive promotion after joining Ipswich Town as part of Tyrone Mings’ record-breaking switch from the East Anglian club to Bournemouth.

Fraser, who joined the Cherries from Aberdeen in January 2013, made 27 appearances during their shock march to the Championship title, but struggled to hold down a regular starting berth. Now the 21-year-old will spend a campaign on loan in England’s second tier after being used as a makeweight in their pursuit of highly-rated defender Mings.

It is understood a club record fee of around £8 million was paid by the Premier League new boys, while Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman also made the move to Portman Road on a permanent basis.

Fraser said: “Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe spoke to me about the possibility of coming to Ipswich and whether I would be interested and I said I’d love to come here. I then received a phone call from Mick McCarthy at Ipswich and we had a good chat. We spoke for a little bit and he seemed a really good guy.

“He told me about the lads, told me about the town and the way he does things at Ipswich. That was all I needed to hear. Ipswich are a great club and they were unlucky to just fall short in the play-offs last season. But, with hard work and a bit of luck, I think we can have a good crack at it again.”

Speaking about his switch to Bournemouth, 22-year-old defender Mings said: “I’m here to develop and learn as much as possible.”
