Formula One: Canny Vettel relaxed as he eyes title

Sebastian Vettel believes he has so far fulfilled expectations in a season he hopes will conclude with him securing the Formula One world title.

Vettel has proven to be a redoubtable character this year following a number of trials and tribulations, not least of which has been an internal feud with Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber.

In theory, Vettel should be the runaway leader of the championship after claiming pole position on eight occasions, but for a number of reasons he has only converted two of those into victory. The 23-year-old, however, is still in there fighting and on course to become the youngest world champion in the sport's history.

Vettel certainly has momentum on his side after winning the last race in Japan from pole, allowing him to close the gap to Webber to 14 points.

Whilst more could arguably have been achieved by now, Vettel is happy enough. He said: "After last season the expectation was to be in a position to fight for the championship.

"It has looked worse for me this season, but right now we are in a very strong, very good position."
