George Thomas, Easthouses: "A disappointing result and performance from Hearts. I thought that the first half was dreadful and I can't even remember us having a shot on goal. After the break, we looked a bit livelier and the introduction of Cinikas and Driver made a difference because we were getting a bit of success down the flanks.

"Both Gary Glen and Christian Nade wasted terrific chances to score and when you struggle to create chances, those are the type of opportunities that you need to take. St Johnstone's goal came at a time when they were on top of the match and they deserved to lead at that time. However, we should have taken our chances and taken at least a draw out of the game.

"The game tomorrow is very important and definitely the biggest game of the season for us. I just hope that Jim Jefferies is able to improve the squad. Hopefully, he will get the funds to bring in some players and get us going again. A win on Tuesday will be a massive boost to everyone at the club."

Scott Pryde, Musselburgh: "Only time will tell what Jim Jefferies can achieve at Tynecastle this time around but the defeat on Saturday is a reminder that he doesn't have a magic wand. All of the problems that we had under Csaba – a lack of a natural goalscorer, a lack of a creative spark and a lot of injury problems – were all still there and those problems will persist until Romanov opens his wallet and gives the manager money to spend. The problems in our side cannot simply be changed by changing manager.

"Losing on Saturday was disappointing but defeat on Tuesday would be unthinkable. I am hoping that JJ will be able to do a bit of work with the players in the couple of days between this defeat and the semi final and we'll play much, much better against St Mirren. The performance isn't important on Tuesday, it's all about the result and a win would be a fantastic way to bounce back from this defeat."

Robert Fairbairn, Tollcross: "That was a shocker of a performance from Hearts. Obviously Jefferies is just in and he hasn't had any time to work with the players but the lack of quality in the side was there to be seen again. I thought that we were devoid of ideas and struggled to break down a very poor St Johnstone defence. The only time that we looked dangerous was when we got the ball too Andy Driver and he could run at their defence.

"There are guys in the current side who aren't good enough and are lacking in basic ability but also some players who lack commitment.

"I'm sure that JJ will have seen that for himself and over time he will root the dead wood out of the squad and bring in players who will give their all for the club. However, these things can't happen overnight and he will need to work miracles to have us ready for the game against St Mirren on Tuesday."
