Hockey: Grange bank on a win over Clydesdale to catch Kelburne

GRANGE travel to Clydesdale tomorrow with one thing on their minds - a victory.

That is the only way the Edinburgh hockey club can put any pressure on new Division One pace-setters Kelburne.

Fourth-placed Clydesdale come into the game on a high after a narrow 2-1 victory over Inverleith last Sunday.

Grange were idle that day but were pushed hard last Saturday by plucky Edinburgh University, who held them to a 1-0 scoreline before the former league leaders scored two late goals to win 3-0. Craig Harper, Grange's player/coach, said: "They (Kelburne) are two points ahead but we are still in the race if we keep winning. We have to be in a position to strike if Kelburne slip up."

Champions Kelburne entertain Western who lost 2-1 to Inverleith last Saturday and 4-2 at home to Grove Menzieshill 24 hours later and they are in no mood to make any mistakes against their Glasgow rivals.

Sixth-placed Inverleith travel to Wanderers, who are eighth, tomorrow and entertain Dundee side Grove Menzieshill on Sunday.

In Division Two, leaders CALA Edinburgh, who have won 15 of their 16 starts so far, entertain sixth-placed Granite City, while third-placed Watsonians host Harris, who are fourth.
