Hockey: Sands slots timely clincher in fine win over Canada

FRASER SANDS slotted the game-winner as Scotland's under-21 hockey side earned a confidence-boosting 2-1 victory over highly-rated Canada at Peffermill in Edinburgh.

The Heriot-Watt University student found the net following a penalty corner with 14 minutes left to make the scoreline 2-0.

The goal underlined Scotland's dominance in the game after Ross Glashan (Dundee Wanderers) had fired the home side ahead with 18 minutes left of the first-half after a fine cross-field pass from the right from Chris Duncan (Inverleith).

But yesterday the Canadians gained a measure of revenge with a 3-2 win to set up today's decider (2pm). The Scots goals came from Daniel Coultas (Durham University) and Kelburne's Michael Christie.
