Lily lifted by victory over Streamers

EASTHOUSES Lily fired themselves back into the promotion race after holding out with only ten men to end a three-match losing run.

Ryan McQueenie was red carded midway through the second half for gesturing towards supporters at Home Park. But despite the one man advantage misfiring Coldstream couldn't capitalise.

Easthouses captain Neil Ferry was pleased with the points. He said: "I think the three defeats mean the title is beyond us but we are still in with a great chance of promotion.

"We took our chances and our keeper, Bryan Young, did really well.

"We have eight games left and they are must win games for us."

Kyle Bogie blasted the Newbattle side in front on 18 minutes against the run of play after a neat turn at the edge of the area.

James Guy and Lee Zavaroni both fired wide as the Streamers searched for an equaliser.

But they fell further behind just before the break following a mix up in the home defence. Jimmy Rae's back pass wrong-footed keeper Andrew Jack and Danny Watson took full advantage by sliding the ball into the net.

Coldstream pulled a goal back on the hour through Guy after he latched onto David Murie's long throw to poke the ball beneath Young.

Despite McQueenie's bizarre sending off on 68 minutes the home team couldn't find an equaliser despite sustained pressure.

Murray Christie and substitute Lee Smith both forced Young into excellent saves.

Streamers boss Mark Lamb, who has watched his team lose their last eight games, said: "The spirit was much better and we can count ourselves unfortunate not to at least get a point.

"We gave them two cheap goals and didn't have the firepower to score enough ourselves."
