Kvitova walks tall in Turkey, Keothavong wins in Barnstaple, Inverleith’s streak ended and England begin Four Nations with victory

Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova rallied from a set down to defeat US Open winner Samantha Stosur of Australia 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 and advance to the final of the WTA Championships in Istanbul.

The 21-year-old will face Belarussian Victoria Azarenka – who beat Russia’s Vera Zvonareva 6-2 6-3 – in today’s final in the Sinan Erdem Arena.

Britain’s Anne Keothavong continued her superb end to the season by demolishing Poland’s Marta Domachowska to win the Aegon GB Pro-Series in Barnstaple.

The Londoner triumphed 6-1 6-3 to secure her 14th victory in 17 matches and lift her first singles title since November 2008.

The 28-year-old also won the doubles with Czech partner Eva Birnerova.

Inverleith’s unbeaten run in the men’s Subway National League came to an end at Peffermill when they went down 3-2 to Western Wildcats.

Champions and league leaders Glynhill Kelburne beat Edinburgh University 5-1.

• Scotland’s U21 women opened their three-match training weekend against England with a narrow 4-2 defeat in the first match at Lillieshall.

Sam Tomkins scored a tournament record-equalling four tries as England began their Gillette Four Nations campaign with a 42-4 victory against Wales at the Leigh Sports Village.

The Wigan full-back sparkled to light up an otherwise drab display which will do little to inspire hopes of a victory over Australia at Wembley in England’s next match.
