Swimming: Smith wraps up success in Olympic trials
The final trials will be held in June and, after the first round, five Scots have made the team. Warrender’s Craig Benson, in the 100m breaststroke, was the shock of the week and he will be joined in Team GB by Robbie Renwick (200m and 400m freestyle), Hannah Miley (200m and 400m individual medley), Michael Jamieson (200m breaststroke) and Caitlin McClatchey.
For Ally Whike, Scottish Swimming’s Performance Direc- tor, it added up to a successful week at the new London Aquatics Centre.

Hide Ad“The trials proved to be as tough and exciting as everyone expected,” he said. “The venue is fantastic and holding the Championships there gave the British swimmers an excellent opportunity to experience the environment before the Olympic Games.
“Overall, five Scottish swimmers have made the team criteria so far which is fantastic, and there are still opportunities for others to qualify in June.”
In the final race of the championships, Loughborough’s Daniel Fogg won the 1,500m freestyle in 14:55.30 with David Davies second in 15.00.73.
