Third Division: Sheerin looking for more from players despite win

Arbroath consolidated their place at the top of the table by seeing off promotion-chasing Albion Rovers 3-0 at Gayfield, but manager Paul Sheerin was not overly impressed.

Gavin Swankie (2) and a Paul Sheerin penalty saw off the visitors, who had goalkeeper Derek Gaston ordered off, but Sheerin said: "I am only pleased with the result. The performance was far from good and we looked very laboured at times.

"We have opened up a gap now at the top, though, so I will have to settle for being happy with that."

Elgin enhanced their promotion push by defeating visitors Montrose 1-0 courtesy of Craig Frizzel's goal with the former Stranraer man taking full advantage of being given a late call-up after Barry Wilson was injured in the warm-up.

Manager Ross Jack said: "Craig took his goal really well and I have to be pleased with taking all three points in a game where we didn't hit the heights."

Annan remained in the promotion chase by winning 2-0 at bottom side Clyde where Sean O'Connor scored in the first half and Ian Harty in the second.

Galabank manager Harry Cairney said: "We deserved the points and are pleased to get going again after a poor result and performance in midweek."

The addition of 45-year-old Andy Millen to the Queen's Park defence is a departure from the norm for a club who customarily opt for youth over experience, but his presence is helping his younger team-mates. Millen strolled through the 2-0 win over East Stirling which made it four wins in a row for the amateurs. David Murray and Michael Daly were the goalscorers.
