Volleyball: City of Edinburgh off to a winning start

City of Edinburgh ended the first weekend of the new volleyball season where they had finished the last - top of the heap.

The Capital side's opening 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 win over Edinburgh Jets was enough to take them to the top of the men's first division of the Schelde Sports Scottish League. While Bon Accord, City of Glasgow Ragazzi and Kilmarnock Blaze also won their opening matches, all three dropped sets.

Bon Accord, who are expected to mount a serious title challenge this season, lost two sets to Dundee before edging through 17-25, 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 18-16.

In the women's first division, City of Edinburgh also made a flawless start as they took care of North Lanarkshire 25-11, 25-12, 25-23.

Troon PA and Su Ragazzi - expected to be City's main rivals for silverware this season - also both won their matches in straight sets.

Troon beat Glasgow International 25-14, 25-12, 26-24 and Su Ragazzi beat South Ayrshire 25-15, 25-15, 25-16.
