New Scottish music: BITE

BITEBITE
BITE
CITING influences including Orange Juice, The Birthday Party and the Pop Group, Glasgow-based BITE create a spiky rock sound which has resulted in plays on 6 Music and support slots with UTR favourites Catholic Action and Honeyblood.

The four-piece, which comprises an archivist, a postman, a printmaker and erstwhile crofter, formed in 2013 following a discussion about Glam Rock. On 21 February they will release their debut EP, Parasite, with a launch gig at Glasgow’s Hug And Pint venue. Recorded at the Green Door studio, it features a generous six tracks, which are available both via digital services and a limited edition of 50 handmade CDs. Check out the chaps at http://bitenoise.bandcamp.com, and those in the vicinity, should get along to their gig.

• Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon run music business night, Born To Be Wide, which celebrates its 12th birthday this week. Their next event takes place in Edinburgh’s Electric Circus and features a self-help seminar for artists, labels and managers, focusing on promotion. www.borntobewide.co.uk
